Ahhh.... Back to civilization...

The trip to Tillamook was great! We took highway 101, which runs all the way down the coast. By the way, the Oregon Coast really is more beautiful than the washington coast. Our car left the driveway at 9:48 am, and we got there at just a few minutes past 4. The reason it took so long was we made a few scenic stops (I have lots of pictures) and then we ate at Stephanie's Cabin, a little restaurant on the waterfront in Astoria. If anyone is planning to go anywhere in that direction, go to that restaurant, even the mashed potatoes are good.
Once we got to the hotel, we dropped all our stuff and immediately went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Since it was the 4th of July, the factory wasn't running, but there were still a good lot of tourists wandering around and a few measly workers doing packing stuff. We got free samples at the end, and bought some ice cream. At the gift shop, shocker, the suff wasn't overpriced! (Of course, I had to mention something about the shop....)
After the factory, we went to Oceanside, a little town a few miles to the north of Tillamook. We parked at the beach, and waited until sunset. This was the first time I had ever seen the sun set over the Pacific Ocean! Now I've seen it at the Atlantic, at Lake Erie, at the Gulf of Mexico, at the Mississippi River and now the Pacific. Woo-hoo! Only 1,000,000,000,095 bodies of water left to go.
So, in the end, there were fireworks over the water and over our heads. A lot of the residents had bought some pretty professional fireworks, and they were beautiful. Actually a few times it was kind of scary because we had to crane our necks up when they shot the fireworks towards the town instead of towards the water.... oops. But it was one of the most spectacular 4ths I've ever had.
After the fireworks, we went back to the hotel and just slept.
We got up to a humerous morning. Not so humerous to my parents, but I thought it was funny. First of all, since it was a hotel after all, none of us had had a good night's sleep. I kept wanting to go back to sleep but since my mom was already up and dressed (and staring at us so that we would get up already), I eventually had to drag my carcass out of bed at 8 in the morning.
After the morning tasks had been completed, I looked forward to a full breakfast. Now, when we moved up to Seattle, we stayed at a lot of hotels, all of which served a free Continental Breakfast. This usually includes the following options: doughnuts, bread, toaster, coffee, milk, cereal, fruit, maybe cheese and some orange juice. Maybe some muffins, too. This hotel had bread, cereal, milk, coffee, and orange juice. Where's my muffins, dagnabbit?! So my breakfast that day was two bowls of Fruit Loops (they were those tiny styrofoam bowls) and bread with jam. Luckily, after breakfast, our first stop was the Tillamook factory again (so we could actually see the machines working on a non-holiday) so I ate a lot of the free samples at the end.
After the Tillamook factory, we headed to the Tillamook Air Museum: the largest wooden structure in the world, which served as a hanger housing some really cool (mostly WWII) planes. Apparently, the museum has its own population of Spotted Owl living in the rafters. (I collected a feather after I learned it was a Spotted Owl I saw and not just some Really Big White Bird.)
Oh, it's lunchtime. I'll probably finish posting either later today or tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great 4th!

Okay I was going to give a full synopsis of my first three days of work and running around and commuting.
But I won't.
Do you know why? Well I'll tell you. It's because I've been getting a total of 6-1/2 hours of sleep every day. I have to get up at 6:00 every morning, and it's humanly impossible for me to get to bed before 11:30 at night. Not to mention I've been commuting 1-1/2 hours to get to Seattle then another 1-1/2 to get back.
However, I'm moaning for no reason other than to illustrate why I don't really feel like giving a huge blog-nopsis. I actually love working at the Burke Museum! Ron, the collections manager, gave me a data entry project. Basically, I transfer info from a Fossil Card Catalog into a computer... Fossil... umm catalog. I felt bad because I kept asking questions on every... single... little... thing but he took it in stride as he always does things and I think he forgave me when I finally shut up and got to work. When I wasn't doing data entry, I was doing research! At first I was overwhelmed (duh, you say? How about you get a pile of rocks dumped on you, but not before a pile of books!), but then I got into it. The fossil looks a little like this living relative:
A picture of the fossil (it looks most like the one in the middle... top row)
In other news, I will be taking a road trip with my parents down to Tillamook until Friday evening, so I won't be able to post more until Saturday/Sunday. And then, why would I want to talk about work? :) Peace out and happy 4th!

Hi All!
I just started my first day of work at the Burke museum. It was actually really fun! I've never had fun working before... ooo scary. :)
Oh and it's nice to know that when friends comment on other friend's blogs about their hazardous trip to the emergency room, that they're checking up on blogs every few days, seeing if their friends are doing all right............. Haha, no I'm kidding. I'm working the Jewish Mother in me. No. No, it's okay that no one has commented in.... almost a week. Except Michelle. Thank you Michelle. :)

I've discovered Font Coloring! I'll have to figure out how this works later.
Ooo I haven't been on in a while.
Well, the biggest news these past few days was I got willingly dragged to the emergency room Friday night; part of the reason I couldn't get back on the comp until now. It wasn't so bad, even though it's the first time I've been taken to the emergency room for myself. I'd been taking the Albuterol all day for my asthma and it wasn't working. For anyone who knows about that kinda stuff, well, it makes you a little jittery. So my pulse went everywhere from 71 to 125 bpm, but strangely that was normal. :) Nothing too special though. Except I was forced into those hideous, loathsome gowns with no back. gah.
So yesterday I started a new book! The Vampire Vittorio by none other than Anne Rice. I'm already halfway through it. If I have nothing better to do today I may finish it.
Dude, if any of you caught the World Cup final, you have truly been blessed! What a game! Germany with it's outstanding goalie and great offensive play, and Brazil with it's graceful passes and skillful defense... Who won? I won't spoil it. :)
