Today's my day off! This week I worked Monday and Tuesday and I work Thursday (tomorrow).

We went to Ikea today. We bought a rug for the dorm next year (it's for my birthday). We got a really good deal!! But it's a funny story. At first I had my heart set on this little chenille rug (well, it wasn't so little, it was just bigger than the size of a regular rag rug). It was so soft! But it slipped, and dorm floors are really slippery. (I'm trying to replace the rag rug that was there last year.) So it occurred to me I'd basically be buying the same thing only in blue....
So we looked around some more and we found one that had been marked down from fifty dollars to 19.95!! We thought, wow what a deal! What's the catch? And we look at it, and the poor rug is so ugly!!! It has a geometric brown-and-gray motif. It's kind of dark, too, and McMahon rooms are already pretty dark.... So I was sitting there, staring at it.... I was trying to rationalize through why it would or wouldn't be a good buy. Well, the rug is 5-foot-7 by 5-foot-7, so it's a hunk of big rug and it wouldn't slip. It's really cushiony, so it's very soft and pretty warm in the winter.... But the poor thing was so ugly! Then I thought "it's like one of those ugly puppies at the kennel that people get just because they're so ugly, they're cute." So that sold me. That, and the fact that it was only about 20 bucks for 5 and a half feet of rug. But I love it because it reminds me of a puppy.
I'm emotionally attached to it now: if McMahon burnt down, it would be the first thing I save.

With Progress Comes... Sore Thighs.
I've made real progress on my research at the Burke! (I hate always having to write blog entries on it and inflicting my Geek Joy on others, but it's very exciting to me, so the rest of you will just have to swallow it. So there.) Anyway, I had a big hunch on what it was, but now the hunch has been (almost-but-not-quite) confirmed. I'm going to tie up the loose ends tomorrow and walk a few unexplored avenues, but it looks like it's either Ancylidae or Acroloxus. I think that's how you spell it. But either way, it's narrowed down so that even if I can't narrow it down further, we already know that this is something that's never been found in this area before; the only place known in North America that paleontologists knew about this little creature (at the geologic time frame it was found) was Colorado and some other place I can't remember. So, cool. That is, if it does turn out to be either of those two, and not one of the Unexplored Avenues or Loose Ends. But even though I made progress today, it came with a price.... I never knew research was such physical work!! I was running all over campus, and towards the end I was doing it lugging really heavy books! You know when you've been working out and your muscles get all wiggly when they're tired? Okay so maybe I'm out of shape, but that happened in my knees. And my fingers. Dumb Zoological Journals. If they know so much why can't they figure out a way to make books lighter?
Okay enough whining. I found out today what exactly Squeaky Cheese was! I heard Michelle speak legends of it, but I never saw it with me own eyes.... Well, I did but I never knew it. At the end of the Tillamook tour they give free samples, right? Well, the fresh curds are also known as Squeaky Cheese. I loved eating it because it made a rubbery squeaking sound when I ate it. Which sounds gross, but it's -um- relaxing. :) The joys of Squeaky Cheese. I should start title-ing my blog entries; Squeaky Cheese would make such a stupid title, it would fit right in with all my entries. haha.
Holy Curds, CheeseDude!
huh-oh... It's getting late. Which reminds me, I have to wake up at 6:00 tomorrow again... boohoo me.

Okay I was going to just edit the last entry but since I let a whole day go by I'll just finish the rest of the trip in a new entry.
After the Air Museum, we headed back up the coast the same way we came. Only this time we stopped by a few stores. The one that interested me the most was when we stopped by the Seaside Factory Outlet Mall. I got myself a spiffy pair of sandals for my birthday, with money my grandma gave me. (I was trying to take advantage of the no sales tax.) I tried looking for a few shirts but I couldn't find any; anyway both my patience and my dad's patience were wearing thin because it was getting warm. So, long story short, we stopped by Stephanie's Cabin again for our last meal in Oregon and (eventually) made it home. Since I was still outfit-less for my birthday we went to Southcenter Mall the day after (yesterday) and I stopped by Bon Marche, where I found nothing except ugly shirts and hiked-up prices. So we went to Rave and I spent the rest of my money there. (For the sake of the guys reading this, especially my dad, I won't go into detail describing them....)
Other than that, I finished the book Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King yesterday. Pretty good book. Not great, but pretty good. It has a nice ending. My next book to tackle: the unabridged version of Les Misérables. Wish me luck... :)
Lastly, I go back to the Burke tomorrow. Liz will finally be there to help me out with my research!! Hooray!
