This one goes on The Bin List.
I was washing my dish in the sink and on a down-scrub I scratched my hand with my thumb. Then I started thinking "ouch, it would be terrible if something with claws had done this to themselves."
So I voiced my opinion: "It would be terrible if something with claws had opposable thumbs."
Bin: "Why would.... What? Disposable thumbs?"
Me: "No! Opposable thumbs, like us. Because if they had claws, they would keep scratching themselves badly...."
Bin: "We have opposable thumbs?"
So then I had to explain that opposable thumbs means the thumbs that bend in the opposite direction as our other fingers, thus allowing superior handling and mobility....

Well the first week of the quarter is over. I can't believe it, it feels like it's been at least two weeks. I'm really not sure how my classes are going to go. I would say all I need is to stay on top of things, but that's getting harder and harder.... Well, I'm kind of starting to refocus; I talked to my parents yesterday and they noticed I had been really stressed for seemingly no good reason. Well I found out that my outlook on things has been dreary because I've just been taking classes to finish up my major so I can graduate so I can go to graduate school so I can be a paleontologist. That's not right! So now I'm going to take random classes I like and see if anything else interests me; in the end I may not even do paleo. I don't like to say that, but it actually makes me feel less "trapped". I probably will though.
I got my first set of photos back; they're not bad considering that in none of them did I ever have access to a tripod.... you can probably imagine how shaky they were. :) I asked my dad if I could borrow his tripod for the week and he graciously agreed.
Hmm it just occured to me I was going to have an animal of the month every month. December's was the Okapi, so this month's will be the Lanner. Purdy... Native to Southern Italy, Morocco, Greece and Asia Minor. Eats mainly small birds, but if no birds are available, will turn to lizards and small mammals.
